Hello Friends,
this is a response from Dr. Victor Choudhrie of India to an issue that has repeatedly come up among our work here in MY country among a BBB movement that is starting. He works with a network of almost one hundred thousand Hindu Background house churches all over South Asia.
Dear Jay,
This is a common problem. If the whole household has not come then there is no way of removing anything. In any case even if the whole family comes, we rarely have to tell them, as over a period of time, they do it anyway. It is us who needs patience and wisdom. I think you are doing the right thing by not making it an issue.
Shalom,
Victor
Hello Dr. Choudhrie,
My Kiwi coworker questioned the new house church leaders about why they continue to have Buddha images in their homes. The Buddhist Background Believers responded that if they remove the images of the Buddha too soon then they will be kicked out of their villages before their families can hear the whole gospel. The new believers ARE encouraged to not to worship their Buddha image. They are shown that True Buddhism (The Eightfold Path) demands 100% perfection and that True Buddhism is Bad News. Primary House Church leader declares, "They must understand the Bad News before they can understand the Good News" Once they understand the Christ is the Savior and Liberator from the endless cycle "they never return to Buddhism"
How do you train your house church leaders to tactfully instruct new believers about this touchy subject?
blessings,
jay
